It happened to me! And, I'm sure that
at some stage in your company director or managerial life you
will have to face your employees, colleagues and good friends
and announce the bad news that things are not looking well for
the future. And, of course the overwhelming feeling in the room
is one of disappointment, frustration and, indeed, anger. To
make matters worse, much of this anger may be focused on you
personally. Your authority may be undermined and you yourself
may be feeling very insecure. That's why it's important for
you to establish control over your audience from the outset.
And one useful and time-tested way of doing this is to tell
a story, not just any story, but a story of how somebody who
is bigger and better than all of us had to face 'rock bottom'
in the past. This speech draws on the true story of Mahatma
Gandhi for inspiration.
