This is a nice little up-beat farewell speech that can
be used by just about anyone who has been told by their
doctor to ... 'slow down ... take it easy ... quit now,
while the going is good.'
And, of course, you may not have been planning to retire
from the company just yet!
In
fact, if anybody had told you a few months ago that
you would be retiring today, you simply wouldn't have
believed them. But I guess when your doctor tells
you that the time has come for you to change course
in your life and steer your ship, as it were, for
quieter waters, you disobey him at your peril. This
speech contains a genuinely funny little story about
how a captain on a battleship on night manoeuvres
noticed a light off the starboard bow moving steadily
towards his ship on collision course. And how, after
much argument. he was finally forced to change course
... very quickly indeed!
